Skin graft healing depends on in-growth of blood vessels from the wound bed into the graft, so anything that would interfere with consistent contact of the graft against the wound will compromise healing. Common causes for graft failure include infection, hematoma or seroma formation, and movement of the graft (Burns & Blackwell, 2007).
