Information

While we do not know the causes of most psychiatric disorders, we have learned that certain mental states, behaviors, and life experiences facilitate the experience of anxiety and depression which may lead to the development of a mental disorder that may become disabling. Further some individuals who grow up in unsupportive environments are more likely to develop behavioral disorders than those who do not. This knowledge has led to a two pronged psychiatric and mental health response. First, the development of behavioral responses in society and institutions to reduce potential triggers of mental health disorders, preventive psychiatry.

Second that individuals can develop personal behaviors which each of us can initiate and follow to reduce stress with potential reduction in anxiety and depression and mental disorders, Wellness Programs. These programs that facilitate the development of enhanced wellbeing and the reduction of work stress have been established in many institutions, for example schools, hospitals, and many workplaces.
