WHY is this medicine prescribed?
Betamethasone injection is used to reduce inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain) and to treat allergic reactions, low amounts of corticosteroids produced by the body, and immune system conditions. Betamethasone injection is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works by changing the response of the immune system or to replace steroids that are normally produced by the body.
HOW should this medicine be used?
Betamethasone injection comes as a suspension (liquid) to be injected into a muscle, joint, or lesion (area of damaged skin) by a healthcare provider. How often and how long it will be given is dependent on the condition being treated. Your doctor will tell you how often and for how long you should receive betamethasone injection.

Betamethasone injection may cause osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking this medication.
Betamethasone injection may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

What OTHER INFORMATION should I know?
Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor may order certain lab tests to check your body's response to betamethasone injection.
Before having any laboratory test, tell your doctor and the laboratory personnel that you are receiving betamethasone injection.
Keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines, vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements you are taking. Bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to the hospital. You should carry the list with you in case of emergencies.
