BREASTFEEDING RECOMMENDATION:*Contraindicated
No reports describing the use of benzphetamine in human pregnancy have been located. The drug will likely cross the placenta, so some fetal exposure will probably occur. Therefore, the absence of human pregnancy experience prevents a complete assessment of the embryofetal risk. Animal reproduction studies have not been performed. The drug is a controlled substance, Schedule III. *Because of its close relationship to amphetamines, the manufacturer states that this drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. Additionally, anorectic drugs are not indicated for use during pregnancy.
No reports describing the use of benzphetamine during lactation have been located. The drug will likely be found in breast milk, so some infant exposure will probably occur. *Benzphetamine is chemically and pharmacologically related to the amphetamines. In addition, anorectic drugs are not indicated during breastfeeding. As such, it is contraindicated during breastfeeding
