GFR - MDRD Equation (Adult)

Accurate estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is essential for appropriate diagnosis and management of chronic kidney disease.

The Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula is one of the most commonly used GFR estimation formula.

The MDRD formula is based on the equation developed from the MDRD Study.

Formula used:

  • GFR = 186 × Cr^(-1.154) × Age^(-0.203)

For Females - Multiply by 0.742

For African-American - Multiply by 1.21

Abbreviations

  • Cr = serum creatinine
  • GFR = Glomerular filtration rate
