Hydrogen Ion Concentration

The Henderson equation, which is essentially a modification of the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, is used to calculate the hydrogen ion concentration as a measure of arterial CO2 tension (PaCO2) and bicarbonate ion concentration (HCO3).

Formula used:

Hydrogen Ion Concentration in nmol = [H+] = 24 * (PaCO2/HCO3)

PaCO2=arterial part press CO2; HCO3 in mEq/L
