Mean Corpuscular Hemo (MCH)

Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) refers to the average quantity of hemoglobin (Hgb) per red cell expressed in picograms. The normal value in adults is 29 ± 2 pg.

Formula used:

  • [Hgb (gm %) × 10] / RBC count (mil/mm3) = MCH

Where, Hgb (gm %) = hemoglobin in g/dL, and RBC count (mil/mm3) = RBC count in millions per cubic millimeters

Abbreviations:

  • Hgb = Hemoglobin
  • MCH = Mean corpuscular hemoglobin
  • RBC = Red blood cells
