Oxygen Index

Oxygen index represents the oxygenation dysfunction in the ICU patients

Formula used:

  • OI=( ( (PIP*it + PEEP*et) / ct) *FiO 2 *100) / PaO 2 )

Where,

OI = Oxygen Index

PIP = Peak inspiratory pressure

it = Inspiratory time

PEEP= Peak end expiratory pressure

et = expiratory time

ct = Total Resp.cycle Time

FiO 2 = Fraction of inspired oxygen

PaO 2 =Partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood

OI = 35 - 60 POOR OXYGENATION, CONSIDER ECMO IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS
