Systemic Vascular Resistance (PVR) refers to the resistance in the systemic vasculature (excluding pulmonary vasculature) against which blood circulation must occur.
SVR is commonly used as a measure of left ventricular overload.
Formula:
Systemic Vascular Resistance in (dyne*sec)/cm5 = 80*(MAP - RAP)/C.O.
Where,
MAP = Mean Arterial Pressure
RAP = Right Atrial Pressure
C.O.= Cardiac Output
Normal values = 900-1300 (dyne*sec)/cm5.
