Maximum Predicted Heart Rate

The equation for age-based maximal predicted heart rate (MPHR) is a common component of exercise physiology and is often used to define maximal exertion during diagnostic exercise testing. Although there are no published study records for the equation, its development has been attributed to Fox and Haskell.

Formula used:

  • MPHR = 220-age

Abbreviations

MPHR = Maximal predicted heart rate
