Warfarin bleeding risk for venous thromboembolism

This prediction rule examined which patients would be at highest risk for bleeding complications when placed on warfarin for established venous thromboembolism (DVT or PE).

3 Items are asked and scores added:

  • Age >=60 years [1.6 pts]
  • Female gender [1.3 pts]
  • Presence of Malignancy [2.2 pts]

High risk: >=3 pts

Intermediate risk: 1-3 pts

Low risk: 0 pt
