Front Matter

It is with great pleasure that we present the 9th edition of The Wills Eye Manual. This edition builds upon the strong foundation established by contributors in previous editions and stands as a testament to the collaborative, inquisitive, and innovative spirit that continues to define the Wills Eye residents, fellows, and faculty. We are confident that readers will find the most current information to guide the workup, diagnosis, management, and treatment of ophthalmic disease in both the office and the emergency room.

The 9th edition incorporates updates based on the results of recent clinical trials and reflects current trends across a variety of specialties, including trauma, oculoplastics, cornea, pediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, and retina. This edition features an entirely reimagined uveitis section that will aid in the approach to the patient with uveitis. Additionally, we have expanded and updated the multimedia content to better assist in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for ophthalmic patients. It includes numerous new photographs, showcasing disease through the latest imaging modalities. These updates, along with many others, have been incorporated while preserving the original aim of this manual: to provide a streamlined, easy-to-follow guide for health care providers in the management of ophthalmic disease.

We are honored to present the 9th edition of The Wills Eye Manual and hope it serves as a valuable, accessible resource for those managing patients with ophthalmic conditions.
