CC FRC. Small airways remain patent during normal TV. In young healthy patients, lung volume at the end of resting exhalation (FRC) is greater than CC (Figure 1).
CC is represented by the dotted line.
CC > FRC. If pathological or mechanical changes result in a reduction in FRC or an increase in CC, airway closure may occur during normal TV breathing (Figure 2).
