The concept for the Five-Minute Veterinary Consult was developed to provide concise and practical information for the diagnosis and treatment of equine diseases. The first Five-Minute Veterinary Consult: Equine, co-edited by Christopher M. Brown and Joseph Bertone, was published in 2002. It was an immediate success and the series was later expanded in both the veterinary and human fields.
The new third edition of the Five-Minute Veterinary Consult: Equine builds on the first and subsequent second edition of the book that was co-edited by Kenneth William Hinchcliff and myself. As in previous editions of the book, it provides brief, state-of-the-art summaries of more than 500 common medical conditions of horses. The goal is to offer equine clinicians and veterinary students a concise, yet comprehensive, up-to-date and easy-to-use overview of the causes, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of these conditions.
This book was made possible by the work of the 206 authors and the 24 section editors who summarized pertinent evidence-based, if available, information, or in situations with a paucity of published data, they shared their expert opinions.
