Jean-Pierre Lavoie has a Master's degree in Demography and a Ph.D. in Applied Social Sciences from the University of Montreal. After working more than 20 years in Public Health, where he conducted his first studies on caregiving to older impaired relatives, he is currently a researcher at the Research and Expertise Center in Social Gerontology (CREGES - Centre de recherche et d'expertise en gerontologie sociale) of the CSSS Cavendish in Cote St-Luc (Montreal, Quebec). He is also member of the research team "Aging, Social Exclusion and Solidarity", funded by The Fonds Quebecois de Recherche sur la Societe et la Culture. He was co-director of the Center and the team for five years (2004-2009).
