Standard Precautions | |
Standard Precautions are to be used for all patients receiving health care in any settingwithout regard to their diagnosis or presumed infection status. Standard Precautions apply to blood; all body fluids, secretions, and excretions except sweat, whether or not blood is present or visible; nonintact skin; and mucous membranes. Application is determined by the nature of the health care provider-patient interaction and the extent of anticipated exposure. Standard Precautions reduce the risk of transmission of infectious agents among patients and health care personnel. Standard Precautions (Tier 1)
Respiratory Hygiene/Cough Etiquette Standard Precautions generally apply to the recommended practices of health care providers during patient care.
