The ABCDE bundle (also known as ABCDE bundle or ICU Liberation Bundle) is a set of interventions aimed at reducing critical care–related morbidity and mortality. This is achieved by focusing on conditions commonly associated with prolonged intubation or ICU length of stay. The use of the bundle has shown a reduction in length of stay, ventilator days, use of analgesics and sedation, incidence of delirium, and deconditioning related to immobility. Hospitals are encouraged to build order sets around bundle interventions to drive practice and compliance. Intervention recommendations do not replace nursing or provider judgment, and each patient should be assessed for appropriateness of care.
