Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors (most frequently recognized by their brand names ReoPro, Integrilin, Aggrastat) block a key receptor involved in platelet aggregation and provide a more comprehensive platelet blockade than aspirin and heparin combined. They are primarily used for acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina, nonQ-wave MI) and in the prevention of ischemic complications postpercutaneous cardiac intervention.
