Methotrimeprazine hydrochloride is administered by intramuscular injection or intravenously after dilution with an equal volume of sodium chloride 0.9% immediately before use.3823; 3824 Methotrimeprazine hydrochoride also may be administered by slow intravenous infusion (20 to 40 drops per minute) after dilution in 250 mL of dextrose 5%.3825
Methotrimeprazine hydrochloride also may be administered by continuous subcutaneous infusion diluted with the appropriate volume of sodium chloride 0.9%.3824
Methotrimeprazine hydrochloride injection is a clear, colorless solution.3823; 3824 Intact ampuls should be stored at room temperature and protected from light.3823; 3824; 3825 Some manufacturers specify a storage temperature of below 25°C3824 or 15 to 30°C.3825 On exposure to light, methotrimeprazine hydrochloride rapidly develops a pink or yellow discoloration; discolored solutions should be discarded.3824
