Haloperidol lactate is available in 1-mL vials and 10-mL multiple-dose vials.3724; 3725 Each mL of solution contains haloperidol 5 mg (as the lactate), methylparaben 1.8 mg, propylparaben 0.2 mg, and lactic acid for pH adjustment.3724; 3725
Haloperidol lactate also is available in 1-ml single-use (preservative-free) vials and 1-ml single-use (preservative-free) prefilled syringes containing haloperidol 5 mg (as the lactate) and lactic acid for pH adjustment.3725; 3726
pH
Haloperidol lactate in both 1-mL vials and 10-mL multiple-dose vials has a pH ranging from 3 to 3.8.3724; 3725
Haloperidol lactate in single-use (preservative-free) prefilled syringes has a pH ranging from 3 to 3.6.3726
Trade Name(s)
Haldol
Haloperidol lactate should be administered intramuscularly3724; 3725; 3726 although intravenous administration has been performed.4; 571; 1258
Haloperidol lactate should be stored at controlled room temperature and protected from light; do not freeze.3724; 3725; 3726
Central Venous Catheter
Haloperidol lactate (McNeil) prepared at a haloperidol concentration of 0.2 mg/mL in dextrose 5% was found to be compatible with the ARROWg+ard Blue Plus (Arrow International) chlorhexidine-bearing triple-lumen central catheter. Essentially complete delivery of the drug was found with little or no drug loss occurring. Furthermore, chlorhexidine delivered from the catheter remained at trace amounts with no substantial increase due to the delivery of the drug through the catheter.2335
