10:00 Antineoplastic Agents
Generic Name
Asparaginase Erwinia chrysanthemi is available as a lyophilized powder in vials containing 10,000 international units of the drug.2896 Each vial also contains glucose monohydrate 5 mg and sodium chloride 0.5 mg.2896
Reconstitute each vial with 1 or 2 mL of preservative-free sodium chloride 0.9% to yield solutions of 10,000 or 5000 international units/mL, respectively.2896 Direct the stream of diluent at the vial wall and not directly into the powder.2896 Swirl or gently mix to dissolve the powder; do not shake or invert the vial.2896
Trade Name(s)
Erwinaze
Asparaginase Erwinia chrysanthemi is administered intramuscularly using a volume no greater than 2 mL; larger volumes require 2 injection sites.2896
Intact vials and cartons of asparaginase Erwinia chrysanthemi should be stored under refrigeration and protected from light.2896
Asparaginase Erwinia chrysanthemi, a white lyophilized powder, becomes a clear, colorless solution on reconstitution.2896 If any visible particles or protein aggregates are present, the reconstituted solution should be discarded.2896
The volume of the reconstituted solution containing the calculated dose should be withdrawn from the vial into a polypropylene syringe within 15 minutes of reconstitution and administered within 4 hours.2896 The manufacturer indicates that the reconstituted solution should not be stored under refrigeration or frozen.2896 Any unused portions should be discarded.2896
