Palonosetron is available as a 50-mcg/mL solution in 5-mL (0.25-mg) and 1.5-mL (0.075-mg) single-use vials containing palonosetron hydrochloride equivalent to palonosetron as the free base.2870 Each mL of solution also contains mannitol 41.5 mg, disodium edetate, and citrate buffer in water for injection.2870

Equivalency

Palonosetron hydrochloride 0.28 mg is equivalent to 0.25 mg of palonosetron as the free base.2870

Administration

Palonosetron hydrochloride injection is administered intravenously without dilution.2870

In adults, a dose should be administered over 10 or 30 seconds, depending upon the indication.2870 Pediatric doses should be infused over 15 minutes.2870

The manufacturer states that the infusion line should be flushed with sodium chloride 0.9% prior to and following administration of palonosetron hydrochloride injection.2870

Stability

Palonosetron hydrochloride injection is a clear, colorless solution.2870 Intact vials of palonosetron hydrochloride injection should be stored at controlled room temperature and should be protected from light and freezing.2870

Palonosetron hydrochloride injection should be visually inspected for particulate matter or discoloration prior to administration.2870
