Ibuprofen is available as a 100-mg/mL concentrate for injection in single-dose vials containing 800 mg of the drug.3534 Each mL of the concentrate for injection also contains 78 mg of arginine in water for injection.3534 CAUTION: Care should be taken to ensure that the correct drug product, dose, and administration procedures are used and that no confusion with other products (e.g., ibuprofen lysinate [NeoProfen]) occurs.
The concentrate for injection must be diluted in a compatible diluent prior to administration.3534 The concentrate for injection should be diluted to a final concentration of 4 mg/mL or less in sodium chloride 0.9%, dextrose 5%, or Ringers injection, lactated.3534 For fixed doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg, the manufacturer recommends dilution in at least 100 mL; for fixed doses of 800 mg, the manufacturer recommends dilution in at least 200 mL.3534 For patients requiring weight-based dosing (e.g., some pediatric patients), the drug should be diluted to a concentration of 4 mg/mL or less.3534
Ibuprofen also is available as 4-mg/mL iso-osmotic, ready-to-use solution for infusion in single-dose flexible polypropylene bags containing 800 mg of the drug.3534 The solution also contains sodium phosphate, sodium hydroxide, and sodium chloride in water for injection.3534 The ready-to-use solution for infusion is for use only in those for whom ibuprofen doses of 800 mg are intended.3534
pH
The pH of both the concentrate for injection and the ready-to-use 4-mg/mL solution for infusion is approximately 7.4.3534
