Administration

Eptifibatide is administered by intravenous bolus (push) injection; the appropriate dose should be withdrawn from the 10-mL vial.3048 The bolus dose should be followed immediately by a continuous intravenous infusion; using an infusion pump, the appropriate concentration of eptifibatide in a 100-mL vial should be spiked with a vented infusion set and administered directly (undiluted) at a rate that is appropriate for the specific patient.3048 For some indications, a second bolus injection of eptifibatide is administered 10 minutes after the initial bolus.3048

Stability

Intact vials of eptifibatide should be stored under refrigeration and protected from light until the time of administration.3048 The drug may be stored for up to 2 months at room temperature; the cartons of the vials stored at room temperature should be marked with a “DISCARD BY” date of 2 months after transfer to room temperature storage or the expiration date, whichever comes first.3048
