Oxycodone hydrochloride is available as a 10-mg/mL injection in 1-, 2-, and 20-mL ampuls and a 50-mg/mL injection in 1-mL ampuls.3808 Also present in the formulation are citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, and hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH in water for injection.3808
Equivalency
Oxycodone hydrochloride 10 mg is equivalent to 9 mg of oxycodone base.3808
Oxycodone hydrochloride injection is administered by subcutaneous or intravenous injection or infusion.3808 For subcutaneous or intravenous infusion or intravenous injection, the drug should be diluted to a concentration of 1 mg/mL in dextrose 5%, sodium chloride 0.9%, or sterile water for injection.3808 For subcutaneous injection, the 10-mg/mL injection is administered undiluted; the 50-mg/mL injection should be diluted to a concentration of 10 mg/mL in dextrose 5%, sodium chloride 0.9%, or sterile water for injection.3808
Intact ampuls should be stored at room temperature.3808 The ampuls should be used immediately upon opening and unused portions should be discarded.3808
