Carbamazepine is available as a 10-mg/mL concentrate for injection in 20-mL single-dose vials.3318 Each mL of the concentrate also contains betadex sulfobutyl ether sodium 250 mg and sodium phosphate monobasic dihydrate 0.78 mg in water for injection and may contain sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment.3318 The concentrate must be diluted prior to administration.3318

Administration

Carbamazepine concentrate for injection is administered by intravenous infusion over 30 minutes following dilution of the appropriate dose in 100 mL of a compatible infusion solution.3318

Stability

Carbamazepine concentrate for injection is a clear, colorless solution.3318 Intact vials should be stored at controlled room temperature.3318 Vials are for single-dose only; any unused portion should be discarded.3318

Carbamazepine concentrate for injection diluted in a compatible infusion solution may be stored for 4 hours at 20 to 25°C or 24 hours at 2 to 8°C.3318 Carbamazepine solution should be visually inspected prior to administration; if particulate matter is present or if cloudiness or discoloration occurs, the solution should be discarded.3318
