Fenoldopam mesylate is available as a concentrate for injection in 1- and 2-mL single-use ampuls.3241 Each mL of the concentrate for injection contains fenoldopam 10 mg (as the mesylate salt), propylene glycol 518 mg, citric acid 3.44 mg, sodium citrate dihydrate 0.61 mg, and sodium metabisulfite 1 mg.3241 The concentrate must be diluted for use.3241
To prepare a diluted solution of fenoldopam for continuous intravenous infusion in adult patients, 1, 2, or 4 mL of the concentrate for injection should be added to 250, 500, or 1000 mL, respectively, of sodium chloride 0.9% or dextrose 5% to yield a solution with a fenoldopam concentration of 40 mcg/mL.3241
To prepare a diluted solution for continuous intravenous infusion in pediatric patients, 0.6, 1.5, or 3 mL of the concentrate for injection should be added to 100, 250, or 500 mL, respectively, of sodium chloride 0.9% or dextrose 5% to yield a solution with a fenoldopam concentration of 60 mcg/mL.3241
Trade Name(s)
Corlopam
Fenoldopam mesylate is administered by continuous intravenous infusion only after dilution in dextrose 5% or sodium chloride 0.9%.3241
Intact ampuls should be stored at 2 to 30°C.3241 After dilution in dextrose 5% or sodium chloride 0.9%, fenoldopam mesylate is stable for 4 hours at room temperature or 24 hours when refrigerated prior to administration.3241
Solutions should be visually inspected for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration; if particulate matter is present or cloudiness occurs, the solution should be discarded.3241
