3M™ Tegaderm™ Absorbent Clear Acrylic Dressing is a sterile wound dressing. It consists of a conformable acrylic pad enclosed between two layers for transparent film. The film in contact with the wound surface is perforated to allow uptake of the wound fluid by the absorbent acrylic pad. The nonperforated film backing is moisture vapor permeable, but impermeable to liquids such as urine and feces, bacteria, and viruses.1
It is indicated for partial- and full-thickness dermal ulcers including skin tears, pressure injuries, superficial wounds, abrasions, superficial and partial-thickness burns, donor sites, and clean, closed approximated surgical incisions or laparoscopic incisions. It may also be used as a protective dressing on at-risk, undamaged skin or skin beginning to show signs of damage from friction or shear.
Cleanse wound and surrounding skin according to facility policy. If periwound skin is fragile or exposure to wound exudate is likely, apply a barrier film. Allow the barrier film to dry before dressing application.
Hold the dressing by a tab, and peel the liner from the dressing, exposing the adhesive surface.
Hold the dressing by the tabs, and center the dressing over the wound, adhesive side down. Avoid stretching the dressing or skin.
Gently position the dressing in place, smoothing from the center outward.
Slowly remove the paper frame while pressing down and smoothing the film border to ensure good adhesion.
Note: During use, it is normal for wound fluid to be absorbed throughout the pad. Movement of drainage to the edge of the pad does not create a need to change the dressing. The dressing should be changed if it is leaking, lifting off, or if wound fluid is under the adhesive border.
Carefully lift the film edges from the skin. If there is difficulty lifting the dressing, apply tape to the edge and use tape to lift.
Continue lifting the film until all edges are free from the skin surface.
Remove the dressing slowly, folding it over itself. Pull carefully in the direction of hair growth.
