Patient will state reportable changes that indicate decreased peripheral perfusion.
Assess lower extremities for early signs of ineffective peripheral perfusion. Early identification and intervention will improve patient outcomes.
Assess patient's history for presence of heart disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and smoking, which are significant risk factors for impaired peripheral tissue perfusion.
Evaluate patient's understanding of lifestyle modifications to enable patient participation in risk factor reduction.
Administer and evaluate effectiveness of medications to treat underlying medical conditions that place patient at risk for decreased peripheral perfusion. Control of risk factors will prevent or delay onset of tissue hypoperfusion.
Position extremity at or lower than level of the heart to promote peripheral perfusion.
Instruct patient to initiate a regular walking program to promote collateral circulation and improve perfusion.
Teach patient to avoid crossing of the legs to avoid constriction.
Encourage patient to carefully follow treatment regimens for existing medical conditions that are risk factors for decreased peripheral tissue perfusion.
Refer patients who smoke to smoking cessation program because continued smoking will significantly increase risks for development of peripheral tissue damage.
Patient has no tissue injury due to decreased peripheral perfusion.
