Trauma-induced hemorrhage causes acidosis, hypothermia, and coagulopathy. Acidosis and hypothermia produce factor and platelet dysfunction, enhancing coagulopathy, which in turn causes increased bleeding. The cycle continues until death ensues unless effective treatment by timely control of bleeding and correction of acidosis, hypothermia, and coagulopathy is instituted.
