[coli- + -form]

  1. Shaped like a sieve; cribriform.
  2. A general term applied to some species of the family Enterobacteriaceae, including Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, and Klebsiella species. Their presence in water, esp. that of E. coli, is presumptive evidence of fecal contamination.
