A 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitor and lipid-lowering agent. It is administered orally, as an adjunct to dietary therapy, to manage primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemias. Trade name is Zocor.
