ABBR: PNF

An approach to therapeutic exercise directed at relaxing muscles, increasing joint range of motion, and regaining function by using rotational-diagonal patterns of movement. These patterns replicate normal patterns of movement and are more functional than exercises limited to the cardinal planes. PNF uses a developmental sequence of mobility, stability, controlled mobility, and skill; it emphasizes precision in patient position, manual contacts, verbal cueing, and timing.
