postpartum t.Subacute thyroiditis that may occur up to 12 months after childbirth. It typically consists of three phases: a hyperthyroid phase, transient hypothyroidism, and a return to normal thyroid function.

subacute t.A relatively rare, self-limiting inflammation of the thyroid gland , characterized by anterior neck pain, thyroid gland tenderness, painful swallowing and /or hoarseness, and transient fluctuations in thyroid function. It often follows an upper respiratory illness and usually resolves in several months. SYN: de Quervain thyroiditis; giant cell thyroiditis; subacute granulomatous thyroiditis.
