continuous passive m.

ABBR: CPM

Use of a mechanical device following surgery to passively and gradually move a repaired joint through a prescribed range of motion continuously over an extended period. The goal is to reduce recovery time by decreasing soft tissue stiffness, increasing range of motion, promoting healing of joint surfaces and soft tissue, and preventing the development of motion-limiting adhesions.

Patients should be monitored closely during use of these devices.
