Peyronie disease
[François de la Peyronie, Fr. surgeon, 16781747]
A dorsal deformity or curvature of the penis caused by fibrous tissue within the tunica albuginea. When the distortion of the penis is severe, the affected individual may experience erectile dysfunction or pain during sexual intercourse.
Treatment: In many cases the contracture is mild, and those patients do not require treatment. When pain is present for more than 12 months, however, or when the deformity is severe or interferes with erectile function, surgical repair of the defect may prove helpful.
