A patient with advanced colon cancer had pain and erythema on the medial aspect of the leg and thigh. The skin was tender at palpation. Ultrasonography confirmed superficial thrombophlebitis: the weins were dilated and not compressible, with echogenic thrombus visible inside the veins. The thrombus extended to the middle third of the saphenous vein. In the inguinal region, both the femoral vein (large arrow) and saphenous vein (small arrow) were compressible, with no thrombus inside. The patient was treated with enoxaparin.
