Bursitis of the Heel

A 40-year-old man had increasing pain behind the heel in the area of the retrocalcanear bursa during excercise, and tenderness on both sides of the insertion of the achilles tendon. Ultrasonography shows a hypoechogenic area at the angle of the achilles tendon and the calcaneus inferiorly. On the other side (not shown in the video) similar hypoechogenic area was not present. The injection site is marked on the skin, after which the skin is thoroughly cleansed before the puncture is performed. Aspiration yielded no fluid. Methylprednisolone and bupivacain was injected into the retrocalcanear bursa. The injection site is covered with a self-adhesive sterile dressing, and it should not be allowed to get wet on the injection day. The injection area should be kept at rest until the next day in order to allow the medication to act locally for as long as possible.

Notice that the ring should be taken off, hands should be thoroughly washed and hand sanitizer used before the procedure is performed.
