Seborrhoeic Dermatitis Behind the Ears

Seborrhoeic dermatitis behind the ears. Severe seborrhoeic dermatitis behind the ears and on the hairy skin of the scalp. Topical corticosteroids bring a rapid relief in symptoms: pruritus, dermatitis, and heavy scaling. Shampoos containing selenium sulphide, zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole may partially control the disease, in which some degree of involvement of a saprophytic yeast, Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum ovale), is seen.
