Videos in EBM Guidelines - Introduction

EBM Guidelines contains short videos demonstrating clinical examination and findings, procedures, and ultrasonographic examinations.

Each video in EBM Guidelines is actually a brief case report. The history of the patient and often also follow-up information are given in the figcaption. All videos show real patients from primary care and ambulatory care practice. Links to evidence summaries are included when available. The way how the examinations and prodecures are performed as well as the written explanations reflect the practical experience of the authors - there can be other good ways and techniques. Also the equipment may be different.

A video is the best way of explaining how to perform a procedure step by step. All the procedures included can be performed in a well-equipped primary care practice or community hospital. Some of them require special training and skills, but many can be safely performed after watching the video. Please note that all routine phases like cleansing of the skin before the procedure are not always shown.

Ultrasonography is performed in the videos before many procedures even in cases where most clinicians are used to perform the procedure without ultrasonographic guidance. If ultrasonography is available in a practice, it is recommended to be used also by general practitioners and other non-radiologists, as it will considerably improve both diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.

If the internet connection is slow, it may take some time to load the video, and the video may halt for a moment while waiting for completion of the loading. In such cases replay the video after loading. If no flashplayer (necessary for watching the videos) has been installed on your computer, you can install one by clicking the link that appears under the video figcaption.
