Enhancing Partner Support to Improve Smoking Cessation

Enhancing partner support for smoking cessation appears not to be effective. Level of evidence: "B"

A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 included 14 studies with over 3 370 subjects. The RR for self-reported abstinence at 6-9 months was 0.97 (95% CI 0.83 to 1.14; 12 trials, n=2 818), and at 12 months it was 1.04 (95% CI 0.88 to 1.22; 7 trials, n=2 573 ). Of the 11 studies that measured partner support at follow-up, only two studies reported significant increase in partner support in the intervention groups.

Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by study limitations.
