Trochanteric Hip Fracture

Trochanteric hip fracture (PA radiograph without markers).

Following a fall, the right hip of a 80-year-old woman became painful and moving was difficult. In physical examination, the pelvis was stable and painless, but in the right hip there was tenderness on palpation.

A plain radiograph of the hips reveals a trochanteric fracture on the right side. Additionally, there are calcified phleboliths (i.e. vein stones) in the lesser pelvis (circle).
