Dermal Melanocytosis (Mongolian Spots) on the Back of an Infant

Dermal melanocytosis (Mongolian spots) on the back of an infant. Dermal melanocytosis (Mongolian spots) on the lower back and on the buttocks of an infant. This blue-gray completely harmless pigmentary change is most clearly visible in the infanthood and disappears with age.As it resembles a bruise it may falsely raise suspicions of child abuse. In Asian and dark-skinned populations this condition is seen in up to 90% of babies; in Caucasians it is rare.
