Patient Outcomes Following Unicompartmental or Bicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty

Total knee replacement with unicompartmental of bicompartmental prostheses may yield moderately good results. Level of evidence: "C"

A systematic review 1 including 46 studies (n=2,391) on unicompartmental and 18 studies (n=884) on bicompartmental knee arthroplasty was abstracted in DARE. 80% of patients with unicompartmental and 73% of patients with bicompartmental arthroplasty reported good or excellent outcomes after a mean follow-up period of 4.6 years. The overall revision rate was 9.2% for unicompartmental and 7.2% for bicompartmental arthroplasty (NS).
