Investigation of Maxillary Sinuses by Ultrasonography

Investigation of maxillary sinuses by ultrasonography. The presence of fluid in the maxillary sinus can be detected by a portable ultrasonographic instrument. The probe is held on the cheek on and above the level of the nose tip and tilted to different directions to ensure that the ultrasonic beam hits the back wall of the maxillary sinus perpendicularly. Fluid in the maxillary sinus produces an echo (see picture Investigation of Maxillary Sinuses by Ultrasonography (Close View)).
