Antibiotic prophylaxis reduces peristomal infection after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Level of evidence: "A"

A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 included 13 studies with a total of 1637 subjects. There was a significant reduction in the incidence of peristomal infection with prophylactic antibiotics (pooled OR 0.36, 95% CI 0.26 to 0.50).
