Antidepressants for Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Antidepressants are more effective than placebo for generalized anxiety disorder. Level of evidence: "A"

A Cochrane review (abstract [Abstract], review [Abstract] [withdrawn from publication] ) included 8 studies with a total of 2238 patients. The pooled RR for non treatment response was 0.70 (95% CI 0.62-0.79), favouring drugs. The NNT was 5.5 (95% CI 4.1-8.4) for a non-response rate of 62% in the placebo group.
