Educational Interventions and Outcomes in Diabetic Adults

Educational interventions in diabetic adults produce positive patient outcomes, including reduction in glycosylated haemoglobin concentration. Level of evidence: "A"

A systematic review 1 included 82 studies. 56 studies used control or comparison groups. For knowledge of dietary principles, the weighted effect size was 0.49 (95% CI 0.37 to 0.61). For self-care behaviour the effect sizes were as follows: insulin injection skill 0.23 (95% CI 0.05 to 0.40); weight loss 0.17 (95% CI 0.08 to 0.27); dietary compliance 0.57 (95% CI 0.44 to 0.70); glycosylated haemoglobin 0.41 (95% CI 0.31 to 0.52).
