Perimembranic Subaortal Vsd (Ventricular Septal Defect)

This 5-year-old child has a 3/6 degree systolic murmur in the precordium. Echocardiography shows a small (approximately 2 mm in diameter) subaortal VSD (ventricular septal defect). The shunt does not need an operation, but the defect should be closed if aortic regurgitation develops.
