Weight Loss Interventions for Obese People with Niddm

Short-term weight reduction may be achieved by behaviour modification interventions and very low calorie diets, but no intervention results in long-term success. Level of evidence: "C"

A systematic review 1 including 13 studies with a total of 585 subjects was abstracted in DARE. Weight loss was reported in most of the behaviour modification interventions, especially in those with short follow-up periods. Very low calorie diets (VLCDs, 3 studies) did not show beneficial long-term results.

Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by inconsistency (heterogeneity in interventions and outcomes).
